🚨 onError is not optional

The cancellation confirmation screen is an asset that most implementations waste. Instead of a generic "Your subscription has been cancelled," use this screen for three purposes:
First, confirm the cancellation cleanly and without drama. The customer made a decision. Respect it. Do not present one more guilt-inducing message or a final desperate offer. The relationship, from their perspective, is over — and treating it that way with dignity leaves the door open for future re-engagement in a way that a last-ditch guilt trip does not.
Second, set expectations for data retention. "Your account data will be retained for 30 days. If you change your mind, your settings and history will be exactly where you left them." This plants a seed — the decision is not permanently irreversible. Some customers who see this note will come back within days because the explicit reminder that their work is preserved makes the psychological barrier to returning lower.
Third, trigger the win-back email sequence automatically. The 30-day email should fire from the moment of cancellation. Not aggressively, not immediately — 30 days later, with an offer that is calibrated to the cancellation reason captured in the survey. A customer who cancelled because of price should receive a financial offer. Building your first cancel flow: a practical checklist
If you are starting from zero, here is the sequence that gets a functional cancel flow live in the shortest time and minimises the risk of common implementation mistakes.
Step 1: Identify every cancellation touchpoint. Most SaaS products have one or two: a cancel button in account settings, and sometimes one in billing settings. Find all of them before you build. Some products also have admin-initiated cancellations (when an account owner cancels on behalf of team members) and API-initiated cancellations — these are different flows that may need different handling.

No mobile optimisation. In many SaaS products, 20–40% of cancellations come from mobile devices.
